CircleUp at the CommitClimate Transnational Workshop

We are excited to share that the CircleUp project recently attended the CommitClimate Transnational Stakeholder Workshop on Circular Economy on March 25, 2025. This event provided a valuable opportunity to connect with other initiatives and exchange insights on promoting circular economy practices.

Prof. Andra Blumberga from Riga Technical University (RTU) International , the lead partner and coordinator of the CircleUp project, presented at the workshop. Her presentation detailed how the project aims to inspire sustainable living in Europe by testing an innovative intervention package with at least 100 households across four countries. The core objective emphasised was to enhance households' ability to implement circular economy actions in their everyday lives.

We were pleased to receive useful feedback on the CircleUp project and its innovative approach to encouraging sustainable living at the household level.

The workshop also featured insightful presentations from two additional speakers on important circular economy topics. A representative from Cesis Municipality shared information about their LIFE project, which focuses on waste resources and began its actions in 2023. They highlighted practical community engagement initiatives, including composting workshops, a plant and bicycle exchange market, and creative workshops focused on upcycling materials, such as making book covers from used fabric.

Additionally, Ilvija Ašmane, project manager for the Local Action Group (LAG) Aizkraukle district partnership, presented on an international cooperation project centered on the circular economy in rural areas. Ilvija described key local activities undertaken in Latvia, including research conducted by Riga Technical University and a series of seminars covering diverse topics such as waste management, eco-design, and industrial symbiosis. A notable outcome of their efforts was the creation of an eBook sharing circular economy case studies from all partner territories, compiled after visits to see successful examples abroad. Ilvija is also a part of the CircleUp project.

Overall, it was a wonderful opportunity to share our progress and learn from the diverse circular economy initiatives being implemented by other organisations, reinforcing the collaborative spirit needed for a widespread transition.
